AXA Chairs Research Fund 2025

Deadline: Expression of interest by 10 October 2024
π Scope: The AXA Chair is a highly selective funding scheme for senior researchers intended to support significant advancements in the development of a research area within a host institution that is in line with its long-term strategy
π₯ Applicant: Host institutions must be registered in the AXA Research Fundβs database. Host Institutions can submit only one candidate for the whole institution (and not one per department, faculty or laboratory)
π° Funding: β¬200.000 per annum
IDRC John G. Bene Fellowship 2024

Deadline: 11 October 2024
π Scope: A fellowship to facilitate field research on the relationship between forest resources and the social, economic, cultural and environmental welfare of people in developing countries, particularly in the face of changing climate conditions
π₯ Applicant: This call is open to Canadians and permanent residents of Canada pursuing masterβs or doctoral studies at a Canadian university
π° Funding: Up to 3 awards of maximum CAD23,000
European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grants 2025

Deadline: 15 October 2024
π Scope: Supports early to mid-career researchers to establish their research teams and pursue ground-breaking projects
π₯ Applicant: Researchers of any nationality with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD, a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal can apply
π° Funding: Starting Grants may be awarded up to β¬1.5 million for a period of 5 years. (pro rata for projects of shorter duration). However, an additional β¬ 1 million can be made available to cover eligible βstart-upβ costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an associated country and/or the purchase of major equipment and/or access to large facilities and/or other major experimental and field work costs
Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship

π Scope: The Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship (DHF) programme aims to support outstanding early career scientists who require a flexible working pattern due to personal circumstances
π₯ Applicant: Applicants can be of any nationality and those requiring a visa are eligible to apply for a Global Talent Visa under the fast-track process of endorsement
π° Funding: Applicants can apply for up to a maximum of Β£1.87 million over eight years
British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grants

Deadline: 6th November 2024
π Scope: The BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants are available to support primary research in the humanities and social sciences
π₯ Applicant: Awards are open to postdoctoral scholars (or equivalent) who are ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom
π° Funding: These awards, up to Β£10,000 in value and tenable for up to 24 months, are provided to cover the cost of the expenses arising from a defined research project
Driving Urban Transition (DUT) partnership 2024

Deadline: 14 November 2024
π Scope: Apply for funding to address key urban challenges facing cities in the transition to a more sustainable economy
π₯ Applicant: UK applicants can be at any academic career stage, but the project team must have a level of skills, knowledge and experience that is appropriate to the proposed project
π° Funding: Maximum award is Β£400,000
NIHR Development and Skills Enhancement Award

Deadline: 22nd November 2024
π Scope: This is a postdoctoral level funding opportunity aimed at supporting early to mid-career researchers in gaining specific skills and experience to underpin the next phase of their research career
π₯ Applicant: You must have completed any relevant pre-registration training (clinical academic applications only), have a proposed English host who is an HEI, NHS body, or other provider of health and/or care services (and more requirements)
π° Funding: Salary of the award holder for up to 2 years, training and development costs up to Β£5,000 per year, conference costs up to Β£1,000 per year, and mentorship costs up to Β£3,000
Royal Society & British Academy Apex Awards

Deadline: Closing 27 November 2024
π Scope: To enable outstanding researchers to focus on advancing their innovative research through seed funding
π₯ Applicant: You are a researcher with a strong track record as an established independent researcher (this can include engineering researchers, humanities and social sciences scholars and scientists), and you are based at a UK university or not-for-profit research institution for at least the duration of the project
π° Funding: Applicants will be able to apply for up to Β£200,000 to support their interdisciplinary projects (Funding -up to Β£10,000- to support public engagement activities can now be included within the main application)
Wellcome Trust Discovery Awards

Deadline: 3rd December 2024
π Scope: This scheme provides funding for established researchers and teams from any discipline who want to pursue bold and creative research ideas
π₯ Applicant: You can apply for a Wellcome Discovery Award if you are a researcher who wants to pursue bold and creative research ideas. You must aim to make a major contribution to your research field
π° Funding: The average size of a Discovery Award is Β£3.5 million. Applications above Β£5 million will be subject to additional scrutiny
Prevention and Population Research Project Award

Deadline: Final submission is 12th December 2024
π Scope: Provides support for focused research proposals centred on key questions in prevention and population research
π₯ Applicant: Have some postdoctoral experience or equivalent and be scientists, clinicians or healthcare workers in UK universities, medical schools, hospitals or research institutes
π° Funding: Funding is flexible for both cost and duration based on the nature of the research questions
